For the third time in a month plans to knock down single homes in the Ascot area and replace them with blocks of flats or multiple units have been turned down by the Government’s Planning Inspectorate.
The latest scheme involved demolishing Rustlings and Kingsland at London Road, Ascot, and building two three-story blocks each of eight flats. It had been turned down by the Royal Borough after opposition from neighbours and the Society for the Protection of Ascot (SPAE).
The developer appealed against the decision, but this week it was announced that the appeal inspector Mr John Woolcock had ruled against the plan largely on the grounds that its “substantial bulk” would have an unacceptable adverse effect on the character and appearance of the area.
